Age Limit

(i)
23 years for boys and 25 years for girls as on July 1, 2024.

(ii)
For SC/ST candidates, a relaxation of three years in age is allowed.

(iii)
The Vice-Chancellor, H.P.U. may, in exceptional cases, to be recorded in writing, give relaxation in age up to a maximum of six months to any candidate. All such cases of age relaxation of up to six months may be granted admission provisionally by the Principal and a consolidated list of all such cases will be sent for approval of the Vice-Chancellor by 31st October of every academic year.

(iv)
Relaxation in age limit is also available to physically handicapped candidates.
General Admission Rules for B.A./B.Com
-
1.
A student who has been expelled by any college/ university will not be admitted to this college.

2.
In case of gap of one year or more in studies the student has to produce an undertaking mentioning the genuine reason of such gap.

3.
If any student gets admission by furnishing wrong information or by concealing certain facts, his/her admission will be cancelled on detection of such information by the college/ university.

4.
The terms and conditions and fee structure can be changed or modified at the directions of the Govt./University.

5.
All admissions are provisional till confirmed/ approved by the university and the college will assume no responsibility in case the admission of the student is not approved by the university for any reason what so ever.

6.
The Students from National Open School must have passed all the five subjects including English in 10+2 in order to seek admission in B.A./B.Com 1stSem .

7.
The students passing 10+2 from other than the H.P. Board has to submit the original migration certificate at the time of admission in the college.

8.
As per the directions of Hon’ble H.P. High Court, no compartment case of 10+2 shall be admitted in the college.

9.
The applicant has to bring his/her guardian with him while seeking admission in the college.

10.
All certificates in original along with the attested copies shall have to be presented by before the admission committee.

11.
Original copy of the character certificate from the head of the institution last attended. In case of student who has discontinued his/her study for one or more years, such certificate must be supported by one obtained from any gazetted class-I or Panchayat Pradhan of the village concerned.

Attested copies of the marks list or provisional marks list from the head of the institution last attended.

13.
Matriculation certificate in original for verification of the date of birth.

A student seeking admission from a board/ university other than H.P. has to produce his/ her original migration certificate.

H.P. domicile or category certificate are to be submitted by only girls and those students who seek or claim any sort of fee concession or scholarship under SC/ST/OBC/IRDP schemes of state/ central government.

A photocopy of AADHAR card showing UIDAI/EID of the student.

The department will offer choices of papers from different disciplines under generic elective and disciplines specific elective as per availability of the faculty

A student can opt for a greater number of Elective and AE Elective papers than proposed under the model curriculum of UGC . However , the total credit score earned will not exceed 148 credits for UG Honours and 132 credits for UG degree.

The overall pass percentage is 40 % and IA 35 % and EYE 35 % passing marks required separately
- The students shall be placed under compartment if they qualify 75 % of the total number of courses in that year. The University shall give two chances for clearing the compartment papers .
- In Himachal Pradesh University , Shimla the following conversion formula for absolute Grading is used to convert Cumulative Grade Point Average ( CGPA ) in Equivalent Percentage for Undergraduate Classes under CBCS system for the students enrolled from the session 2016-17 onwards ( vide Notification No. 7-1 / 2019 HPU ( Academic ) dated 11.7.2019 ) Percentage marks scored = CGPA Obtained x 10
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
For BA and BCom 30 % of the maximum marks in each paper ( excluding practical exam marks ) are for Internal Assessment , to be sub - divided as under :

(a)
Weightage for attendance (5% Marks) :
Up To 75 % including condoning of lectures by the competent authority as per provision under Ordinances : zero mark.

(i)
Without Condoning of lectures up to 75 % : 1 mark.

(ii)
76 % to 80 % lectures : 2 marks.

(iii)
81 % to 85 % lectures : 3 marks.

(iv)
86 % to 90 % lectures : 4 marks.

(v)
91 % and above : 5 marks.
- (b)The remaining 25 % marks will be awarded on the basis of the performance of the candidates as follows :

(i)
Assignment / Presentation etc. 10 marks ( 5 + 5 ).

(ii)
Mid Term 10 marks and 05 marks of Class Test . Total 15 marks for BA II Year & III Year : Fill the subjects you are already studying .
Study Courses Under CBCS System
- At the time of admission each student will identify a major (main) subject in which he/she will concentrate and two minor (allied) subjects which he/she would choose to study.
- Major would be the subject in which the student will have to take core courses (hard core and soft core and/or additional elective) prescribed by the concerned UG Board of Studies and the Faculty.
- Major once identified would not be changed unless the student quits a programme and joins a new programme.
- Minor, on the other hand, would be the subjects that would be chosen by the students out of a number of subjects combinations (at least two subjects in each subject combination) suggested and approved by the UG BOS and Faculty of a student’s major subject and availability in the college/institution in which student applies for admission.
- In these subjects, the student will be required to accumulate a certain minimum number of credits in order to qualify for the UG degree.
Duration of Degree Course
The UG programme for a regular student shall be for a minimum period of three years and a maximum of five years from the date of admission of the candidate.
Roll on Admission to B.A./B.Com./2nd and 3rd Classes
The roll- on system of admission to these classes has been introduced by the H.P.University in order to streamline the system of admission and to increase the days of effective teaching. The main features of this system are:

Admission to B.A. / B.Com /2nd and 3rd is on roll on basis. Students need not wait for their University results.

(ii)
Procure prospectus from the college office.

(iii)
(iii) Fill the admission form legibly in your own handwriting

(iv)
Get the admission form checked and recommended by the admission committee.

(v)
Deposit the fee in the office and get your class roll number.

(vi)
Major and minor courses of any student will not be changed.
